The first records of the Everton Internal Drainage Board as it is now known were established in the reign of George III in 1796. Various other Acts followed in 1801, 1812, 1860 and 1912. The present Board was constituted in 1945 and held its first meeting on the 18th October of that year.

The Board’s District lies within the area covered by Bassetlaw District Council. The Board can be classed as a rural Board with only small areas of urban development at Misterton and West Stockwith. The village of Gringley to the south lies outside of the Board’s district

The Board’s district covers some 3,237 hectares its northern boundary is formed by the River Idle and its eastern boundary by the River Trent.

The Board maintains some 55.43km of watercourse and 2 pumping stations. The Board’s entire district relies on the pumping stations which discharge into the River Idle and which is maintained by the Environment Agency.
